This Winter Solstice is one like no other. Jupiter, lord of opportunity, expansion, higher learning, philosophy and the law is coming into a conjunction with Saturn, lord of contraction, priorities, limits, reality, hard work, and success over time. Every twenty years Jupiter and Saturn come into a conjunction. What makes this one so special?
To get the exact nature of this major event, there are two articles I highly recommend:

Here are two important points to know:
Every 20 years for the past 200 years (except for once) Jupiter and Saturn have met in an earth sign. This year, there is a great mutation - they are meeting in an air sign. And, every 20 years for the next 200 years, they will continue to meet in air signs. The last time this happened was the year 1226. So, for the next 200 years, society (Jupiter and Saturn are the two societal planets) is moving from a focus on the tangible, material plane (earth) to a focus on ideas, innovation and communication (air). Right now, we're together, separately. What an apt metaphor for air!
The Jupiter-Saturn conjunction on December 21st will be the closest Jupiter-Saturn conjunction since July 16, 1623. Jupiter and Saturn will only be 0.1 degree apart. The closer planets are to earth, the stronger their influence.
What I find the most important to know about this conjunction on December 21st is that it falls at 0 degrees of Aquarius. 0 degrees of any sign is the very first degree. Think about a time in your life when you completed something major, something that took years. Some examples: high school or college, a major research project, a particular role in your field that ended with a promotion or with you leaving the field... Now, think about the time between when you finished this and began something new. And think about how you felt when you just began the new time in your life. That is like 0 degrees of a sign. It's the newest of the new. And being in a new situation carries with it excitement, uncertainty, insecurity, and openness. In the next 20 years, all of us are going to experience a great newness of society together. Nobody really knows what it's going to look like or be like, we just know we can't go back to how things were before 2020.
In your own astrological chart, 0 degrees of Aquarius falls somewhere. Wherever that is, you are going have a personal experience of newness in the next 20 years. The nature of Aquarius concerns innovation, genius, disruption, rebellion, and sometimes a shock factor. It is also associated with brotherhood/sisterhood, social societies and communities, and friendships. In the next 20 years, each of us will meet with a personal breakthrough and reinvent this particular area of our lives. If you're not sure what area of life is being targeted by this conjunction, here is a good way to discover it on your own. Below, I am listing when the moon is in Aquarius each month. Make a note of what your natural inclinations are during these days. It's helpful to keep a journal or make a note of where life takes you and then look for trends. This is the area of your life that is being activated by the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction on December 21st.
January 13 - 15, 2021
February 9 - 11, 2021 (On these dates, the moon is Aquarius, so is the Sun, Mercury, and Venus along with Jupiter and Saturn. This means that the particular area of life targeted by the conjunction is especially highlighted during these days.)
March 9 - 11, 2021
April 5 - 7, 2021
May 2 - 5, 2021
May 29 - 31, 2021
June 26 - 28, 2021
July 23 - 25, 2021
August 20 - 22, 2021
September 16 - 18, 2021
October 13 - 15, 2021
November 9 - 11, 2021
December 7 - 9, 2021
Well Begun is Half Done
Sometime on December 21st, find a little bit of time to yourself. During this time, imagine yourself in a field of pure potential. Something new that you've never before thought of will be knocking on your door as early as February of 2022. Now is the time for inviting in newness, a willingness to change, and to acknowledge the need for innovation somewhere in your life. Now is the time to make room for this wide-open field of potential within your being. It's also important on December 21st to acknowledge that change is hard and to list your natural responses to change. Then, see yourself easily moving through the coming change with honesty, grace and courage.
My other suggestion is to repeat this very exercise sometime during each of the date clusters listed above. (Once in January, once in February, etc. anytime during the dates I've listed above). This will create a momentum. You may also get some clarity and insight into about your own personal breakthrough during this monthly practice.
Other Astrological Happenings Right Now
1) Mercury is conjunct the Sun today! This means we are halfway through the current Mercury cycle. Look back to the list you made on October 25. I am always humbled and grateful to see how these Mercury cycles manifest! The next time Mercury will go retrograde, which will mark the beginning of the end of the current cycle, will be on January 30, 2021. From now until January 30:
A period of introspection and social responsibility
There is an unconscious impulse to pull back and reserve energy and focus on the ending the current cycle and finishing up any major projects that have been initiated
A ‘completion of action’ stage dominates
The maturity of projects, ideas and actions has arrived and this is an opportune time to reap the full rewards available
It is still a forward-moving time and it is also a thoughtful time too, which requires more deliberation before initiation
Bursts of creativity are more likely to be checked against a measure of practicality
The mind is more pragmatic, even in experimental areas and more rational, logical and organized
2) Venus has only one more month in her Surrendering and Discovery phase! From now until January 31:
We continue to learn of loss
We continue to learn what we are attached to, what we're afraid of, and what we're ignorant of and have the opportunity to meet it all with honesty, courage and forgiveness
We continue to learn what can never be lost within us and have the opportunity to reaffirm our will to be here in our lives
According to Adam Gainsburg in The Light of Venus, the meditation image that corresponds with this Venus phase is: A search for marbles finds fresh fruit instead. You can use this image as a "starting point for your imagination, inner intuition, or deeper body sense to take the reins." I love working with Adam's images for each Venus phase and always delight in the results. Have fun working with this in your own way!
Enjoy the wonders of the Solstice and the month of January, when we finish both current phases of Mercury and Venus!
May all beings be at ease!
